Updated: May 17, 2021

Celebrated on April 22nd, Earth Day comes once a year. But it's important to take action every day. A little goes a long way when it comes to saving the planet! Earth Day provides the perfect time to check in with your greenness and decide where to make some changes. Going green might be a lot easier than you think! Simple switches in our daily habits can help collectively reduce footprint

“Change is never easy, and it often creates discord, but when people come together for the good of humanity and the Earth, we can accomplish great things.”

David Suzuki

10 Tiny Lifestyle Changes You Can Make Right Now

To help guide your sustainable living journey, we've outlined a few simple tips you can use every day.

1. Choose reusable food storage

Swap out your Ziplock bags for a less wasteful option. Just think about how many of those plastic baggies you go through that eventually just end up in the landfill or ocean... Reuse frozen fruit bags to store your dry foods or old bread bags to wrap your sandwiches. There are also tons of sustainable alternatives on the market, like beeswax wraps or reusable sealable pouches.

2. Take your bike for a spin

'Tis the season to get your bike out! Enjoy fresh air and movement, while helping reduce air pollution.

3. Don't throw away your old essential oils

Oxidized essential oils can be used to make your own DIY home cleaning products.

4. Reuse your essential oils bottles

Clean and sanitize your bottles and use them to hold your own crafted blends and oils. Or fill the empty bottle with a carrier oil of your choice for a great on-the-go option!

5. Save water

Turn off the tap while you brush your teeth. Take a shorter shower and use a water-saving showerhead.

6. Eat less meat

The meat industry is one of the biggest drivers of global climate change. Cutting your meat intake will significantly help lower your personal greenhouse emissions.

7. Buy locally grown produce

A shorter transit time from farm to table helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions, our carbon footprint and food waste. Local produce is also fresher, higher in nutrients, and tastier!

8. Choose chemical-free cleaners

Avoid washing toxic chemicals down the drain and opt for environmentally-friendly household products instead. Or even better, make your own DIY toxin-free cleaning products with essential oils! You can purchase our Green Home ebook for recipes, tips & more!

9. Shop second-hand

Consider trying second-hand shopping, it will save money and resources. Extend a product's life cycle and keep it out of the landfill. If buying new, opt for better quality products that will last longer.

10. Cut back on paper

Save trees and cut down on pollution by opting to receive letters, statements and receipts digitally.

What Love & Lemons is doing for the planet

At Love & Lemons, environmental responsibility is at the core of what we do. Our current sustainability efforts include:

We are proud to use 100% natural, pure, vegan, and cruelty-free ingredients. Our handcrafted products are free of toxic agents, synthetic preservatives, parabens, chemicals, SLS, artificial dyes and phthalates.

We source our ingredients sustainably and employ ethical farming practices.

We use sustainable and compostable packaging solutions whenever possible. Our packaging is mostly glass, to minimize waste. When we do use plastic, we make sure it’s either fully reusable or recyclable.

We're currently developing refillable packaging. Our design includes glass containers that come with refills pouches, which is know to use 70% less plastic than regular containers.

Down the road, we hope to start a conversation with TerraCycle on the possibility of recycling essential oil bottles.

We do our best daily in order to apply the 3 R's principles by reusing, recycling and reducing!

For Love & Lemons, every day is Earth Day!
